Marysville Primed Cedarmill James HardiePlank Siding Replacement

This Marysville siding project was built around a complete exterior reset rather than a surface-level repair. KV Construction removed the old siding and rebuilt the weather-facing wall system with HardieWrap, seam treatment, window and door flashing, new trim, exterior fixture blocks, and primed Cedarmill James HardiePlank.

The main siding profile uses 6 1/4-inch primed HardiePlank Cedarmill siding. The textured Cedarmill surface keeps the familiar appearance of wood-grain lap siding while using fiber cement for a more durable Pacific Northwest exterior.

Why This Exterior Needed More Than New Siding

The project started with complete removal of the old siding. That allowed the new exterior to be built as one coordinated system instead of attaching new material over an aging wall finish. For Marysville homes exposed to long wet seasons, this is especially important because the siding itself is only one layer of the exterior.

Weather Barrier, Flashing, and Rain Control

HardieWrap paper was installed behind the new siding. The project also included Hardie sealing tape and 4-inch HardieFlash around windows and doors. All windows received 26GA metal head flashing, with additional primed 26GA flashing around windows and exterior blocks. Primed Z-metal was installed at blocks and windows, helping create controlled horizontal transitions where the siding system is interrupted.

Material Choices That Fit the Home

The primary siding is 6 1/4-inch primed James HardiePlank with a Cedarmill texture. Primed rustic Hardie 5/4×4 was used for outside corners, window trim, and door trim. Primed metal W profiles were installed at inside corners. Hardie 7×10 blocks were also incorporated at light fixtures, outlets, and water-service penetrations.

Details That Made This Project More Complete

The scope included full old siding demolition, HardieWrap, Hardie sealing tape, 4-inch HardieFlash, 26GA window head flashing, primed Hardie trim, metal inside corners, flashing around windows and exterior blocks, dedicated Hardie fixture blocks, Z-metal, primed Cedarmill HardiePlank, and QUAD MAX caulking.

Outcome and Homeowner Value

The finished exterior combines the traditional appearance of Cedarmill lap siding with a more complete Pacific Northwest moisture-management system. By removing the old siding and rebuilding the exterior around HardieWrap, flashing, trim, blocks, and fiber cement siding, KV Construction created a wall system designed for Marysville’s rainy climate rather than focusing only on the visible finish.
